My work involves a lot of travel. And this results in a challenge to find pools to swim in - but it also brings some surprising rewards. In Belgrade, Serbia I made friends with one of the national water polo coaches. I admired the design of one of his t-shirts - and he immediately gave me a spare. This has evolved gradually to a point where we swap t-shirts. He gives me shirts written in Cyrillic and from water polo tournaments and I get him shirts from swimming pools in far away places.
I normally take a picture of pools where I swim and attempt to make some notes about them - like cost and whether I can recommend the place for lap swimming. I have found over the years that I have booked hotels with swimming pools- only to find that they are the length of bathtubs. So I often seek out municipal pools and health clubs.
I dont know whether it is ultimately of any use to anyone else but it keeps my interest up.
